Yeah, I don't think any of the kids in the books I read made it! They were tear-jerkers, and rather than being depressed afterwards, I always felt grateful to be alive, and determined not to waste my life!

Of course, just like with New Year's resolutions, I'd revert back to my slothful ways a few days later. :)

Your post made me smile because I also went through an empty-the-library-shelf stage reading books about kids heroically battling cancer. They always seemed to lose the battle, but forever change their family/friends/world in the process.

I'm totally buying that vampire-with-leukemia book.

Sorry, I wish I could help but I'm new to this whole cat-ownership thing too, and I haven't had a problem with pissing yet. The only advice I can offer is to go to a pet store and get a specialty product to clean anything she pees on. Even if you can't smell it, she can smell where she's peed before, and will continue peeing there. It's as if her brain now sees the couch and bed as toilets.

Can you shut her in a room with a litter box for the night, or when you're not at home? That may encourage her to use the litter box, plus it will cut off her access to the bed and couch so that she can't pee on them in secret.

Finally, she may have an issue with the litter box: maybe it's not in a private location and the dogs are bugging her. Maybe she doesn't like the kind of litter. Maybe it's not cleaned frequently enough for her liking. Try addressing some of these issues and see if the problem resolves. If it doesn't, ask your vet: they may have advice.

Thank you so much for this post. Because I am at a LOSS when it comes to my cat. If you will indulge me for a moment and listen to how I came to be a cat own because I need HELP!
I took in my sister's cat about six years ago when my sister got married and got her own dogs. She moved in with me and my dogs because they were tolerant of her and didn't chase or torment her. I'm not sure when it began but at some point she became a pissy kitty. She began to pee on my bed and couch anytime she didn't like something and this continues to this day. I've taken her to the vet and there is nothing wrong with her she just continues to act out and I am at my wits end with her. Do you think you might be able to help me? Thanks.
